Smart Home Setup

I install and configure individual smart devices (thermostats, video doorbells, smart locks, switches) so they actually work together and talk to the voice assistant you already use.

Smart Home Setup

The Done-Right Promise

If a repair or installation fails within 90 days because of my workmanship, I return and fix it at no additional cost. Parts and materials follow their manufacturer warranty.

Individual smart devices — thermostats, doorbells, locks, switches — installed and configured so they work with the voice assistant you already use.

Smart devices are only useful when they are set up properly and talk to the rest of your house. I install and configure individual devices, one or several in a visit: smart thermostats, video doorbells, smart locks, smart switches, and plugs. Each device gets fully configured, tied to your app, and connected to the voice assistant you already use, Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit.

Phoenix has some quirks worth knowing: video doorbells bake in direct summer sun, so placement and heat-tolerant models matter; smart thermostats need a C-wire check before install, because Phoenix cooling loads run hard and a wiring issue shows up fast; and many older Valley homes lack a neutral wire at their switches, which changes the switch options. I check for all of this before any work starts. When the device count keeps growing past a handful, I will tell you when it is time to step up to Home Automation, my flagship tech service that puts everything in one platform instead of five apps.

What I Install

Thermostats & Climate

Nest, Ecobee, and other smart thermostats installed with a C-wire check, app setup, and schedule tuning. In Phoenix that schedule matters: pre-cooling before the afternoon peak on your SRP or APS time-of-use plan costs a lot less than trying to pull the house down mid-peak.

Doorbells & Locks

Ring, Nest, and other video doorbells mounted with heat-survivable placement in mind, direct southwest sun is a real concern on Phoenix front entries. Smart deadbolts with app and voice control, keypad codes configured per household member.

Smart Switches & Plugs

Swap regular switches for smart switches or dimmers that keep working even when the Wi-Fi drops. Newer Phoenix homes usually have a neutral wire; older ones often do not, so I use no-neutral switches or smart bulbs where needed. Smart plugs for lamps and small appliances go in fast as add-ons.

Voice-Assistant Integration

Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit, I set up the platform you already use so all the new devices show up cleanly, grouped by room, and respond to the commands you expect.

What It Costs

Firm prices, quoted before I start. Batch several devices into one visit and the $125 minimum service fee spreads across all of them, so the cost per device drops.

  • Smart thermostat install (Nest, Ecobee): $120 (labor; includes C-wire check and app setup)
  • Video doorbell install (Ring, Nest): $125
  • Smart lock install: $110
  • Smart switch or dimmer: $75 per switch (neutral wire required; I check first)
  • Smart plug or smart bulb setup: $25 per device (added onto a larger visit)
  • $125 minimum service fee covers travel and the first hour on site. Most single-device installs fit inside the minimum, so batching several devices in one visit is the best value.
  • $75/hr beyond the first hour.
  • Devices are customer-supplied or HandyMack-supplied. Either way, you see the hardware cost before any work starts.

Low-voltage device swaps are my lane. New circuits, panel changes, or anything that needs a permit goes to a licensed electrician. I install; I do not pull permits.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does smart home device installation cost?

Firm prices per device: smart thermostat (Nest, Ecobee) $120 including C-wire check and app setup; video doorbell (Ring, Nest) $125; smart lock $110; smart switch or dimmer $75 per switch; smart plug or bulb $25 per device on a larger visit. The $125 minimum service fee covers travel and the first hour, and most single-device installs fit inside it. Batch several devices in one visit and that minimum spreads across all of them, so the cost per device drops. Beyond the first hour, I bill $75/hr.

Do I need to supply the smart devices?

Customer-supplied is preferred, and I can recommend specific models (thermostat, doorbell, lock, switch, plug) before your appointment. If you would rather skip the shopping, I can source the hardware, you see the cost on the invoice before work starts.

Will my devices work with Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit?

Yes. I configure your devices to work with whichever platform you already use. I set up rooms, groups, and routines so the new devices slot into what you have instead of living in their own separate app.

My home is older and the switches might not have a neutral wire. Can you still install smart switches?

Yes, with the right hardware. Many older Phoenix homes lack a neutral wire at the switch box, which rules out some common smart switches. Where there is no neutral, I use no-neutral-compatible switches or smart bulbs instead, so you still get smart lighting without rewiring. I check the boxes before committing to anything.

I want a video doorbell, but my front entry gets brutal direct sun in Phoenix. Will it hold up?

Heat and direct sun do reduce lifespan on doorbell cameras. I look at the mounting angle and sun exposure before install and flag models that handle heat better. A recessed or shaded mount can make a real difference on a west- or south-facing entry.

When should I step up to Home Automation instead of individual smart devices?

When the device count starts outgrowing a handful of individual things, roughly 10 to 15 or more, or when you want lighting scenes, climate tied to occupancy, and real automations instead of just app control. At that point Home Automation (my flagship tech service) puts everything in one platform with a local hub, instead of five apps that do not quite talk to each other. I will tell you when the conversation has shifted.

How soon can you come out?

I try to respond within an hour and can often get out same-day or next-day for a straightforward device install. Call or text (480) 885-6292 with what you have and I will give you an honest window.

What areas do you service?

I am based in Stetson Valley and serve Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Sun City, Surprise, and the greater Phoenix Valley. Scottsdale is case-by-case. Call (480) 885-6292 with your zip code if you are not sure.
