I can't recommend Joe at HandyMack Tech & Home Services enough! He did an incredible job mounting our TV on our outdoor patio. After unsuccessfully trying to install it myself and drilling several unnecessary holes while searching for the studs, I finally decided it was time to call a professional. Joe responded quickly and was able to help right away. His attention to detail is outstanding, and he truly goes above and beyond to make sure the job is done correctly. He took the time to ensure everything was perfectly aligned, securely mounted, and completed to the highest standards. Joe is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and takes great pride in his work. If you're looking for someone who delivers quality workmanship and exceptional service, I highly recommend HandyMack Tech & Home Services. I will definitely be calling Joe again for future projects!
Safe Living / Aging-in-Place
I install the grab bars, motion-sensor lights, ramps, and caregiver cameras that let people stay in their own homes longer, done with care and no suction-cup shortcuts.

The Done-Right Promise
If a repair or installation fails within 90 days because of my workmanship, I return and fix it at no additional cost. Parts and materials follow their manufacturer warranty.
Accessibility modifications for aging-in-place: grab bars, ramps, motion-sensor fixtures, and caregiver cameras, installed with care.
Staying in your own home longer is worth a lot, and the modifications that make that possible are not complicated, they just need to be done right. I install stud-anchored grab bars, motion-sensor lighting that solves middle-of-the-night falls, threshold ramps for tricky interior transitions, and caregiver cameras that let remote family check in without feeling intrusive.
I work in a lot of Sun City and West Valley homes. I know how to work patiently and respectfully in those houses, and I will tell you honestly when something is outside what I install.
What I Install
Grab Bars & Rails
Stud-anchored grab bars in bathrooms and hallways. I install through tile, fiberglass, and drywall, and I add proper blocking where studs are not in the right spot. No suction-cup bars, ever. Those fail when you need them most. Handrails for interior stairs are also in scope.
Ramps & Thresholds
Non-structural threshold ramps and modular door ramps for interior and entry-point transitions. I install; I do not build permitted structural ramps. If the job needs a contractor, I tell you before any work begins.
Motion-Sensor Lighting
Motion-activated fixtures and night-light circuits for hallways, bathrooms, and bedrooms. In Phoenix single-story homes, a dark hallway at 2 AM is one of the most common fall risks. I install fixtures into existing junction boxes with no new wiring runs needed in most cases.
Caregiver Cameras
Simple, privacy-respecting camera setups so remote family can check in without overstepping. Tied into your existing network, configured with app access, and walked through so you can actually use it. This is the same install as my Security Cameras service, scoped to the rooms that matter for peace of mind.
What It Costs
I quote the full job before any work begins, so you know the number before I pick up a drill. The rate structure for safe-living modifications is straightforward:
- Grab bar install: $85 per bar (range $85 to $130 depending on blocking and wall type)
- Interior handrail install: $150
- Threshold or small door ramp install: $150 (materials extra)
- Motion-sensor light or fixture (existing junction box): $110
- Non-slip surface treatment or additions: $110
- $125 minimum service fee covers travel and the first hour on site; $75/hr beyond that. Most modification sessions run 2 to 4 hours.
- Stairlift assist (mounting, wiring, and testing your customer-supplied unit): scoped per visit at the standard hourly rate.
Structural modifications, permitted ramps, and certified ADA-inspected installs go to a licensed contractor. I install to ADA guidelines on standard items; I do not pull permits. I will tell you when the job needs someone else.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do aging-in-place modifications cost?
Grab bar installs start at $85 per bar (up to $130 with blocking). Interior handrails and threshold ramps are $150 each. Motion-sensor fixtures and non-slip treatments run $110. The $125 minimum service fee covers travel and the first hour on site, and most modification sessions take 2 to 4 hours at $75/hr beyond that. I quote the full job before any work begins.
Can you install grab bars in a tile or fiberglass shower?
Yes. I install grab bars through tile, fiberglass, and drywall into studs behind the wall. Where a stud is not in the right location for the bar, I install proper blocking first. I never use suction-cup grab bars, those fail under load at exactly the moment you need them not to.
What is a stairlift visit?
I assist with mounting, wiring, and testing a customer-supplied stairlift unit as part of a safe-living visit. You source the stairlift; I handle the physical installation and commissioning on site. The visit is billed at the standard $125 minimum plus $75/hr; the time varies with the unit and your stair configuration. Call (480) 885-6292 before booking so I can confirm compatibility with your stairs.
Are your grab bar installs ADA-compliant?
I install grab bars to ADA guidelines for height, placement, and anchoring on standard residential modifications. What I do not do is certify an install as ADA-compliant or pull permits. If your job requires a formal certified inspection or a permitted structural change (blocking built into the framing, structural ramp), that work goes to a licensed contractor. I will tell you up front if that is what you are looking at.
Which modifications make the biggest difference?
In my experience with Sun City and West Valley homes, the highest-impact items are: grab bars in the shower and next to the toilet, motion-sensor lighting in the hallway and bathroom, and a threshold ramp at any door with a step-up a resident has to navigate daily. Those three categories cover most of the fall risk in a single-story Phoenix home.
How soon can you get out here?
I try to respond within an hour and can often schedule within a few days for a safe-living visit. If the situation is more urgent, call or text (480) 885-6292 and tell me what you need, I will give you an honest window and work to accommodate it.
Do you work with caregivers or family members scheduling on behalf of someone else?
Yes. I am comfortable working with family members, home health aides, or caregivers who are coordinating the visit. I ask that the homeowner or a trusted adult is present during the install, both for access and so someone can see firsthand what went in and where.
What areas do you service?
I am based in Stetson Valley and serve Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Sun City, Surprise, and the greater Phoenix Valley. Scottsdale is case-by-case. Call (480) 885-6292 with your zip code if you are not sure.

What neighbors say
Joe wrote me a resume that was fantastic!!! i sent my old one to him and he had a new revised one the same day!!! i highly recommended services.
My grandma had just moved to Peoria from Chicago and we needed to feel hat she'd be safe with no one out there to be with her. We were recommended Joe at HandyMack Tech and he responded quickly, unlike others. Came out and have a fair quote. To put us at ease, he installed Reolink cameras, set up the app for me and her so we could see from Chicago. Installed some smart fall alert sensors and a view of the camera if there is a fall. Even though we are far away we feel much better about our grandmas safety thanks to Joe!
If you ever need anything done, please contact Joe. He answered my call for help for a broken gate. He arrived exactly when he said he would, was gracious and friendly and did the job with absolute perfection. He will be doing some other things for me as well. It’s hard to find someone you can trust. But when you do, hang on to them, which is exactly what I plan on doing. Thank you again Joe. You’re a lifesaver.
